WHO: This Cherry Blossom season, diners can enjoy the most expansive and breathtaking views from the Wharf Penthouse of the iconic Cherry Blossom trees along the Potomac River, originally gifted to the US by Japan back in 1912. Inside, the space will be transformed into a floral oasis. Celebrated Japanese chef, Nobu Yamazaki, will offer a sample of items from the forthcoming restaurant, Tabu. Chef Yamazaki, best known for his work at Michelin starred restaurant Sushi Taro, has partnered with Naeem Mohd (La Vie, Provision 14, Bar Bao, Pamplona) to open Tabu in the space below La Vie. At Tabu, Ymazaki will incorporate the flavors and cooking techniques of Polynesian and Japanese cuisine, serving lunch and dinner
WHAT: The Cherry Blossom Terrace menu will include traditional Japanese street sandwiches with an upscale twist such as hire cats sando, a fried pork tenderloin with ketchup oyster sauce; ebb furry sando, panko breaded shrimp with egg; and a vegetarian karaoke sando of potato corn croquettes. All sandwiches are $8.
A cherry blossom inspired cocktail menu developed by La Vie Cocktail Director Chad Cortner features Japanese spirits and ingredients in drinks such as the 88 Temples, Santori whiskey, wild cherry blossom tea, peach and lemon; jin kyuri, Japanese gin, yuzu, cucumber, and wasabi; Kiwi Do You Love Me, pisco, key lime, kiwi, and mint; and Shoki Dreams of Honey, vodka, kumquat, honey and prosecco. Drinks range in price from $12 to $15.
